It's my absolute favorite month (and also the month of my birthday!) I've been doing too much online shopping for boots, coats, and sweaters. The Caribbean doesn't really allow any enjoyment of the season, but I'll be visiting home a couple of times in the next two months, so it's completely justified. Right? hah.. I feel as though nothing ever changes here. 86 degrees (but feels like 100), and ridiculously high humidity. Every. single. day. I'm not really a warm weather kind of girl, and so I can't wait for my visit back home to NYC at the end of next week. It'll be a nice little break from school.

ANYWAY. I didn't mean to ramble. We just finished midterm exams, and I'm excited to say that they went well. It's been the word around campus that this is the most difficult term, but so far I don't feel like that's the case. There's definitely less time in the day since lectures are daily 8am - 12pm and labs 1pm - 5pm and much more volume of material, it's not nearly as difficult as the material from Term 2. I'm so excited that I've come this far, and there's only 55 days left in the term! (Last final is Dec 6).

Keep pushing everyone, we can do this!

A good pair of leggings and yoga pants. My personal favorite are by Zella, sold at Nordstrom. They're super comfortable to wear, wash and dry well, and doesn't make you feel too frumpy! The workout-wear material also dries faster than the traditional cotton legging, making it a perfect choice for tropical weather (and the unexpected rain!).

Tank tops. Back to the basics guys. Throw one on with a pair of yoga pants, and voila! An outfit for lecture. My favorites are from Target!

Sports bra

Workout tops. Sweaty Betty tank pictured above.

A comfortable, light weight sweatshirt. I always have one of these either on, or with me for classes and studying. Study halls can get chilly with the AC (definitely not complaining though, I'd much rather it be cold than warm!). I can't get enough of the basic Wildfox ones.

Rain jacket because it pours unexpectedly.

Shorts because it's permanently summer down here. The ones pictured above are from One Teaspoon.

Sweatpants. Enough said.

Bathing suit; do go to the beach from time to time!

Flipflops. The Old Navy ones are my go-to. They're comfortable and inexpensive, which is important since I tend to go through them quickly on the island.

Birkenstocks because it's nice to wear something more substantial than just a flip flop sometimes. Available at Nordstrom

Slippers to be comfortable in my dorm.

Athletic shoes to wear to the gym. I love my Nike Theas.

Large, water resistant tote. Absolutely necessary, especially the water resistant part. Don't want your notes and electronics ruined because of the rain. Longchamp is fantastic, but I'm currently using the "Ryan" diaper bag from LeSportSac. Don't judge until you try it! There's so many compartments for everything, and two sections for bottles; one for my water, the other for an umbrella. Love love love this bag.

Sunglasses to hide behind because we're all going to wake up with bags under our eyes from long nights of studying. And nobody wants premature wrinkles!

It's a fabulous way to see a bunch of different places all at once, with very little planning required. Therefore, I figured what better way to celebrate the fiancé's birthday as well as completing final exams than to get back on the boat. I can't even begin to explain how much I miss colder temperatures, especially since I'm totally not a hot weather girl, and I go to school in the tropics. After browsing a couple of options, we booked the trip to Norway, and it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
Now is the time to freak out over Valentine's Day right? Hah. Just because there's an exam the day after doesn't mean we can't enjoy the day. Here's my little love list of medical student approved gifts; for that student in your life, significant other, bestie, yourself, whatever. (Everything is linked below)
First of all, HAPPY NEW YEAR! It's been quite an eventful year. I don't want to get into the details or anything (well, if you're interested, feel free to send an email), but we'll just say it's much easier this year, than it was last year.

I just wanted to mention a little about a student's mindset. I'll be the first to admit that during my first term, I was physically here, but mentally, I was everywhere else but here. Arriving on the island felt like a bad vacation, or summer camp that never seemed to end. I mean, my first day here, the bus had dropped off my roommate and me on the side of the road, a good half a mile from our new dorm...with 40lbs of books in tow, each. Not exactly a warm welcome. I'm also not the biggest fan of warm weather, but that's a whole other story.

I didn't start this post to bitch about year 1 or anything, I just wanted to make the point that a student's mindset can make all the difference. I found things difficult that actually aren't difficult. I couldn't make myself do simple things, or even figure out any good ways to study. I was dragging my stuff around, switching rooms, figuring out my way, and all of a sudden, classes began at full swing. Of course my situation wasn't unique, I can probably say it's similar to a lot of people's experiences when they get here, but for one reason or another, it affected me. To put it simply, I wasn't mentally ready to start medical school. But I kept going.

If I had the choice to start the process all over, I would put in some more thought. Really think things through. At the time last year I figured I would just start (my acceptance letter came a little over two weeks before the start of school). Take the opportunity and jump in! It could be argued either way whether or not that was a good idea. I do make rash decisions once in a while, but never of this caliber. Usually it's about chopping off 10 inches of my hair, or booking a last minute getaway. I'm happy that I begin when I did, but I will say that medical school is not a last minute getaway.

I'm not trying to deter anyone at all! Just putting forth that starting school is the last step of your "getting-into-medical-school" process, and it's not one to be taken lightly. We all put so much effort into essays, grades, applications, interviews. Why rush the last part? Put in all the thought, make careful decisions, and really prepare yourself and you'll get the best results.

To everyone starting school this January, congratulations! You have great things to come.
I can hardly believe it's more than half way through January. The last couple of weeks have been so much fun, and a much-needed break from medical school.

My favorite part of the holidays was probably my visit to Savannah, GA (with a little day trip to Charleston!). I had never been to the south (well, aside from Florida), and figured it was time. And oh my goodness it was BEAUTIFUL. I felt like I stepped into a Nicholas Sparks movie! The only thing was that stores tended to close early. I'm not sure if that's just the New Yorker in me though haha.
Since high school. I loved how the covers were sturdy, the size was small, and the weekly layouts were great. I never saw the point in spending a ton on a planner (even though I'm a planning-obsessive), but through out last semester, I noticed that my planner was way too small and I had a ton of sticky notes and lists on the side to accommodate. I figured I'd try a fancier planner that could accommodate my busy schedule, and see what the hype is all about.

And so I purchased the Emily Ley Academic Simplified Planner, and the Erin Condren Life planner. Ultimately I decided to go with the Emily Ley planner because the ECLP just didn't work for my lifestyle. Being a medical student, I need more structure in my day than just a few open boxes, and I love that the Simplified Planner's layout includes time slots that go all day, as well as a box for notes, dinner, and a to-do list. The layout is simple, with lots of white space, and generally lowers my anxiety when I look at it (haha). Also, the academic part really helps, since the planner matches the school schedules.

Don't get me wrong though, I LOVE the Erin Condren as well. I love that there's so much space to decorate, personalize, and my favorite part-the coil; it seems indestructible. I even went ahead and decorated a couple of spreads, but having to be honest with myself, I won't have the time to heavily decorate once classes start. In general, the ECLP looks much busier, with lots of bright colors, quotes, and a lot going on. School has been jam packed and stressful enough that I need my planner to be very straight-forward. I do think I'll go back to the life planner though, maybe once basic sciences are over and I have more control over what I do with my hours. If the Simplified Planner had a water proof cover, a stronger coil, and thicker pages, it would be the absolute PERFECT planner.

I even thought about possibly using both planners together, the Erin Condren for general life things, and the Emily Ley for school- but why complicate things right? I can still decorate the Simplified Planner, and I fully plan on doing so.

If I've learned anything so far, it's that medical school is incredibly humbling. Not that I was arrogant before, but the past two months has definitely shown me (and probably everyone else), that what you think you know doesn't even skim the top of what you need to know. There's definitely more "growing-up" to do.

There are 4 lectures per day from 1-4pm, Monday through Friday, with mornings reserved for labs and review of the previous days' lectures. The key to Term 1 is a solid study method and time management. Coming out from college, we've all been doing things a certain way. That way probably won't get you too far here, but it really helps to plan every minute of every day, and make sure everything on your to-do list is taken care of and completed by the end of the day. Easier said than done, I know.

So far I've survived midterms, and there's around 50 more days until the end of finals! Oh, and Easter "break" is next week- we get Friday off through Monday. It should be a good break, being that we don't have spring break :-/Amelia http://www.blogger.com/profile/05900793767641653462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7472723605405357479.post-60286359497424927822015-03-19T16:50:00.000-04:002015-03-19T16:50:16.885-04:00Make Up & Medical SchoolSo now that I'm done with my midterms, I thought it would be interesting to talk about MAKEUP. School has been incredibly busy, and everyone seems to be bumming around in lounge clothes (myself included- yoga pants are my new best friend). However, refusing to let it all go, these are the products that have been getting me through the semester. I know. I've been keeping it (very) simple.

Too Faced Hangover Rx Primer
I've been using this one as my moisturizer in the morning. It's slightly sticky/tacky texture after you apply it makes a perfect base for foundation, BB cream, whatever else. Oh, and it smells amazing.

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream
Shades Light and Light/Medium
I've been mixing the two to come up with the "perfect" color. Being in such a super sunny and humid environment, I needed something that won't clog my pores, or allow me to look like a huge ball of grease in the facial area! I'm happy to say that this product does both.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation (long enough name right?)
Shade: Light-Medium-Neutral
I don't use this product on the daily, but for those days when I don't feel like mixing BB cream, I'll go for this. It definitely isn't full coverage by any means, I'd say the coverage between this and the Smashbox BB is similar- unless you build it up. I do like that there's a little net in the product that keeps the powder from getting everywhere, but it is a little difficult to get to the product at the same time. I've been using this with the accompanying brush.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder - Diffused Light
This has been by go-to setting powder this term. It brightens up the complexion and gives a "soft-focus" effect. It goes beautifully over the BB creams, and keeps things matte a little bit longer. I also love how you can't over-do this powder, and it's been going strong regardless of how tan (or not) I am. I use this with my Real Techniques Powder Brush.

Charlotte Tilbury Bronze & Glow
Love love love this. I'm sure you've heard about this before, as everyone seems to be talking about it. Besides the fact that the packaging is absolutely gorgeous, the product in it is amazing as well. The bronzer looks a little bit shimmery in the pan, but does not apply that way. It's perfect for warming up the face, or in my situation- evening out the tan on my face!

Nars Lipstick - Cruising
This has been my favorite lipstick since forever. It's a pinkish nude that perfectly compliments everyone's lips. You don't need a mirror to put it on, and it feel like a chapstick. Perfection in a tube.Amelia http://www.blogger.com/profile/05900793767641653462noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7472723605405357479.post-75314442303307864182015-01-15T19:20:00.000-05:002016-01-22T16:21:33.722-05:00OrientationToday was day 2 of orientation. We started off the day with a great breakfast at the Radisson. It's probably the first legit meal I've had since I got here on the 11th!

As for orientation, it all started yesterday with welcome notices, things we need to know, a crash course on society, laws and customs of Grenada, and health and wellness lectures. Today they went over how to use clickers, the medical school curriculum, educational services, financial aid, and the day ended with a little ice cream social to showcase all of the clubs on campus. I signed up for the surgery club, mostly because it was interesting, but I'm not sure if I should be spending extra time doing things that don't pertain to the curriculum just yet. Oh well, I can always ignore the emails. Or maybe I'll like it and participate, we'll see.

They really have orientation week completely packed up until school starts on Monday. Tomorrow we've got a lecture on how to use the exam software, health insurance, and some info on housing, followed by a party.

Don't know how nervous I should be, pretty much everyone was freaking out over all the material. Maybe they're trying to scare us, we'll see. I can tell that losing self confidence will be detrimental here, so I'll probably do what I always did. Just my own thing.

I went and printed out my schedules- we've got so many of them! I'm going to compile them all into one, or copy it into my planner. The longer I look at it, the less intimidating it is, so that's good.

On a brighter note, here are a few pretty photos from the day.
At least I will be. Across the street from the Grand Anse dorms is a plaza with a grocery store, gym, hardware store, shoe store, KFC and I think something else. We had to stop by the grocery store for some food (campus doesn't feed us well) and the hardware store for some storage bins and boxes, and a transformer to convert the electricity to the proper voltage.
IGA- The grocery store looks pretty much like a US grocery store, only more expensive and less choice. It's also common for them to run out of things...for weeks or months at a time evidently. We got eggs yesterday! Which was exciting because they sell out, and weren't available when we went a couple of days ago. I heard that we should get fruit from the fruit lady or the locals instead of the grocery store. It's insanely expensive at the grocery store. I saw a handful (literally) of cherries for $12 US.

The hardware store next door is called Creative something or other, and they sell anything you might need in that department- key rings, hangers, tupperware, plastic drawers, transformers, etc. The latter two is what we went for. Nearly had a heart attack when I saw how much those plastic drawers were. You know- the ones you can get at Target for $15. They were $50US. Omg. We got two for our stuff, and probably will get one more to share and store cookware, etc.
The transformer was necessary though. People say we can purchase them from upper-termers but we couldn't find anyone selling them and couldn't wait any longer to charge our electronics. I was initially pretty worried about the voltage conversion because I had absolutely no idea how it works. The store employees didn't do a great job explaining, but I got it eventually. They really do want to help which I appreciate though.

Transformers Explained- The max wattage of your appliance must be equal or less than the maximum the transformer can hold. For example, the transformer we got can hold up to 1500W (it's written on the box). My electric kettle requires 1500W (again, written on the box or appliance) so it works. Anything that heats up cannot be run simultaneously; I cannot run the electric kettle and the coffee maker together, HOWEVER using the kettle or coffee maker along with charging the ipod/laptop is fine. Does that make sense? Set the transformer to 220V (to convert down. if you set it to the 120V, it'll convert it to a higher voltage). You plug the transformer into the wall + plug a surge protector into the transformer + plug your appliances into the surge protector. Voila.
It didn't take long to register, and even less time to print our IDs. My photo came out awful, but who's didn't right? The books however, were something else. They seem pretty interesting though. We picked them up and waited for the bus to head back to Grand Anse. It took 1 hour and 15 minutes to get on that bus. Oh! and evidently we went on the wrong bus (we took the one that said Grand Anse/Grand View Inn or something like that) and it dropped us off down a LONG road away from our dorm...yes. With our books. And our bags with laptops and other things. I guess we learned our lesson- only take the bus that says True Blue/Grand Anse.

I packed up the last bit and headed to JFK last night for a 12:25am direct flight to Grenada. JFK was a complete zoo. Everyone seemed to have flights on Saturday night/early Sunday morning. When I arrived at the gate, it was pretty obvious that pretty much everyone is a student, or accompanying a student. I met a couple of people, and also met my roommate and her family, which was nice. Our flight got delayed until about 1:30am- something about being unable to find the passenger who owned a particular bag that was already loaded so they had to unload everything and find said bag. Womp.

ANYWAY, the temperature on the plane was SUPER high for whatever the reason, and so I barely got any sleep. Customs took about an hour and a half, starting with an unorganized baggage situation. The airport is quite small, so you walk off the plane, then into the airport. Bags are strewn everywhere in the baggage claim area, and everyone is left to fend for themselves. A couple of people were unlucky and couldn't find their bags. I personally didn't have an issue getting through customs. Everyone had their electronic customs form, regular customs form, school letter, acceptance letter, and passport. I didn't have my electronic customs form and it was fine anyway, but I heard some people having a difficult time with that. I was told not to claim anything, so I guess it worked. There were people from St. George's that met us on the other end of customs who were organizing taxis to take us to our respective dormitories.

I tried to take a couple of pictures while in the taxi to the Grand Anse campus- the driver was really nice. I did notice that the driving isn't nearly as regulated as it is in the US, but somehow it works.
We got to our dormitories, and retrieved the key from the RA. Opened the door, and was less than pleased. I mean, the photos make the place look much nicer than it is. There's a moldy and damp smell, super rusty bathrooms, a dingy cheap-motel style carpet and twin beds. The only upside is the size. It is quite large for a dorm, but I'd rather a smaller and more reasonable place to reside.

Being the obsessive organizer that I am, I've compiled somewhat of a packing list. This isn't comprehensive or anything, but it's what I've come up with in preparation. Some of it's taken from the SGU website's suggested list, and others I've added on my own, or suggested from other blogs/advice pieces that I've read.
Here's the Travel Folder section of the SGU site. Students are required to bring receipts for the electronic items that aren't covered by school (otherwise it will be at the discretion of the customs people)
We went on a Carnival Cruise starting in NYC to Puerto Rico, stopping at US Virgin Islands (St. Thomas), Antigua, St. Kitts, and St. Maarten. It was such a relaxing vacation after months and months of MCAT studying, medical school applications, essays, and interviews. Click here for more information of the cruise option that we chose.

The 3 days of "Fun Day At Sea" got a bit old after a while though. It was nice to just disconnect for a couple of days. I never noticed how much time I spent on social media and browsing the web until I stopped!
I hope everyone's had a great holiday. Over the last few days, I've:

Purchased my ticket (one-way! ahh)

Filled out health forms

Shopped a bit for warm weather clothes

Made a packing list (this will be a separate post)

Probably annoyed the heck out of the student who answered the phone for the "speak to a current student" line. He was extremely helpful though!

Listed a bunch of things on my eBay store as I've been cleaning and purging

...even though I don't think it has all settled in yet, you know, the fact that I'm moving to start medical school in 12 days. I've definitely been enjoying myself though.
I got into St. George's yesterday! Which is quite exciting considering how late it is in the month. It's too late for the Global Scholars Program that I initially applied for, so I was accepted for the Grenada campus, with orientation beginning on Janury 14, 2015. I've submitted my deposit, and so it's official. I'll keep updated with packing lists, and all of that.

Side note!
The Global Scholar's Program is where first year students spend their first year of basic sciences in Newcastle, UK at Northumbria University. The second year would be spent in Grenada. The program is properly accredited in the United States, so clinicals, residencies and beyond wouldn't be an issue. One big thing is that students are not eligible for ANY financial aid during the 4 years if they participate in the program. Their application is a separate essay along with the regular application.

Where is Grenada?
I hope to provide useful information for other students making the transition to a Caribbean school (or out of the country, for that matter), as I know how first-hand accounts have been an immense help to me.

For family reasons, I've missed the deadlines for most US allopathic schools and my MCAT didn't exactly go as I had hoped (My college GPA was fine though, 3.6). Knowing that the exam is about to change for 2015, and my already being out of school for a year or so, I didn't want to wait and re-take and reapply. I know that the Caribbean application process is faster, and would allow for more flexibility given the time constraints.

So far...

St. George's - Waiting for a response...Interviewed 10/5/14 (last week), for the January semester. Ahh so soon. I applied for their KBT program, where you spend the first year in Newcastle in the UK. I've always wanted to study abroad, and never got the chance in college.

Ross - Interviewed 10/4/14, accepted into MERP. Welp. Initially I was accepted to the class that begins on TUESDAY. Yes, as in today. Obviously, that didn't happen.

AUA (Antigua) - Accepted. Interviewed in November. Apparently they also have an MBA program, which I'm interested in doing. Two degrees in 4 years? Sounds good.

SABA - Wanted me to retake the MCAT...What's with this MCAT obsession? I think that 4 years of studies, habits, and performance shows way more than 4 hours out of one day. But it is what it is.

MUA (Nevis) - Accepted. Interviewed in November.

As of now, I've deposited for my seat at AUA, and am waiting on St. George's.
Let's see how this all goes.Amelia http://www.blogger.com/profile/05900793767641653462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7472723605405357479.post-65329628167620233362014-12-04T13:34:00.002-05:002014-12-09T23:35:51.035-05:00December Update

OHMYGOODNESS it's December. I just got back to the city from visiting my parents for Thanksgiving. I'm surprised I haven't forgotten how to drive! They live in a super small town, so it was a good break from the city.

I've been so super super busy the past couple of months, and I'm glad things are finally winding down (sort of). I ended up taking the MCAT on September 5 and it was, put simply, the worst. It takes over your life and leaves you being a shell of science facts. Following the exam was a ton of application business, essay writing, professor stalking, and interviews.

I did manage to take a break though, the boyfriend and I took a cruise and went to Las Vegas (I'll definitely show pictures in a following blog post). I've started another blog regarding premed, MCAT, applications, and so forth as well. I know I've found those blogs to be SUPER helpful.

Anyway, I hope you're all having a wonderful fall/beginning of winter. I'm off to go Christmas shopping! Until next time.
I know it's not good for anyone to be laying out anyway, but it's fun to have that summery glow. I've always strayed away from self tanners in the past, especially seeing examples of how they've gone HIDEOUSLY wrong. Right? We've all seen girls walking around looking like they've dipped themselves in orange paint. Not the look I'm going for.

I've used Jergens Natural Glow once before a few years back, and I remember that it worked quite well. I just finished a bottle of the medium/dark this week, and I have to say it's still pretty good. The new formula is AMAZING, and it smells SO good. Lightly and pleasantly scented (which is a lot better than other tanners), and applied evenly. It doesn't streak if you let it dry before you get dressed. I only had some streaking on my wrists- I guess I wasn't careful enough when washing my hands after application. Everything dried in under 10 minutes, and I was good to go. No stains on my white sheets either!

Instead of repurchasing another bottle of Jergens, I opted to try the St. Tropez Gradual Tan. I don't know why I can't just bite the bullet and get a regular self tanner, but the gradual ones seem a bit less intimidating, and more forgiving if you mess up. I applied it for the first time today (I'm actually waiting for it to dry as we speak here). My first impressions is that it doesn't smell nearly as good as Jergens. I mean, it doesn't smell awful by any means, but its really strong and not necessarily pleasant. Its taking FOREVER to dry, and so far it's leaving my skin a bit shiny and sticky. (My left arm is a little shinier than my right. I probably applied to much on that arm. oops). You're supposed to wait until it all dries before you get dressed. 25 minutes and counting. Grr.

So far:

Jergens smells better

Jergens dries faster

Jergens is less expensive

These are just my first impressions of the St. Tropez. I won't judge anything from the first try, I'll definitely continue and see which tanner I like better. Have you tried either of these? Which are your favorites?Amelia http://www.blogger.com/profile/05900793767641653462noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7472723605405357479.post-76425820783568459812014-07-28T16:29:00.001-04:002014-07-28T16:29:31.356-04:00Haul | I Didn't Have An Umbrella

It's just an average Monday, and I went out to the grocery store to pick up a few things. It's forecasted a high of 82F and sunny. So I walked the few blocks over, and suddenly it started POURING. Not the sprinkling of sun showers that happen throughout the summer, but legit POURING. Fate would have it that Bluemercury (a beauty and skincare shop) was the closest store to me, and so I ducked in to wait out the rain...

I already had in mind to pick up the Belle du Jour//NARS lipstick the next time I stopped by a beauty supply store, but it was still pouring when I found the lipstick. I ended up getting sucked in to the Deborah Lippmann display and picked up two nail polishes. And the Laura Mercier Secret Brightening Powder.

I'm kind of excited about the "Today Was A Fairytale" nail polish, as I don't own any glitter polishes. I'm usually not a fan, but this one just looked so pretty in the bottle- a silvery blue. I think it would look super pretty on its own, or layered over a neutral or something. "Break 4 Love" looks super pretty too, a bubble gum pink. I've been super into pink polishes lately. The packaging is kind of neat too. I'm predicting a mani-pedi later.

Every day I walk by the sky lift that connects Manhattan with Roosevelt Island, and the other day I thought it was time to give it a try. Roosevelt Island is a small island situated between Manhattan and Queens, and the only way to get there is by the sky lift, F train, or to swim- I suppose. Car access is only from Queens. It's one of those places where everybody knows about, but nobody actually goes to. It's quaint, full of apartment buildings, and actually has real grass (shocker).

After about 5 minutes on public transportation that provided such gorgeous views of the city and river, it felt as if I had driven a hundred miles away. The vibe was immediately calmer, complete with BBQs going on and people enjoying a live band. I didn't think that the $2.50 fare could get me that far away from the hectic lifestyle on the other side of the river.

Remember to take some time to get away from it all, and some time for yourself, regardless of how busy life can get to be. Where do you go for a getaway?Amelia http://www.blogger.com/profile/05900793767641653462noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7472723605405357479.post-11487514757129105382014-06-15T00:07:00.003-04:002014-07-23T21:20:29.336-04:00Face and Favorites

Josie Maran Argan Infinity Intensive Creamy Oil $28

This is such an amazing moisturizer. It's not something I would recommend using on the entire body, but it works wonders on dry spots, knees, elbows, feet, and the face. It's comparable to a Vaseline, but 100x better. It has a very light scent, and a little goes a very long way. I've used it a ton, and it hasn't caused any breakouts. I use this mostly at night, and problem spots are moisturized and taken care of come morning. Love love love.

NARS Translucent Crystal Powder $35

SO I'm a little conflicted about this powder. at $35, it's pretty expensive for what it is. It's also a very interesting consistency. In the pan, the powder is a pure, bright white. Upon touching, it feels like paper, yet feels slightly bouncy. Kind of like the Maybelline Bouncy Blushes, but a little less springy. You can dent the powder with a finger nail, but it doesn't crumble into pieces. Does that make sense? Anyway. It doesn't seem like the product would even work, but somehow adheres to the brush, and is beautifully transferred to the face. It's completely translucent, and gives a very subtle almost satin finish to the skin. I definitely do like this powder and will finish it. Not sure if it's a repurchase...

MAC "Well Dressed" Blush $21

A gorgeous satin-finish blush. It's a true pink, and very light in the pan. Initially I didn't think it would look too good on my yelllow-toned skin, but it works wonders. You could go rather heavy handed with this, and the product is build able. The color doesn't transfer bright pink to the skin, but rather brightens up the face. Repurchase forever. It's the only blush I've been using the last two months!

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer $29

Ohhhh this concealer. Lives up beyond the hype. Super blendable, long lasting, and a little goes a long way. I wear the shade "custard". It would be nice if NARS came out with a squeezey tube of this concealer though. Something about using the wand and putting it back grosses me out a bit.

Tarte BB Tinted Treatment Primer $35

This was one of those products you pick up in line while waiting to pay. I was at Sephora a couple of weeks ago and figured since the little 0.5fl oz tube was only $10 (inexpensive by Sephora standards), I'd go ahead and give it a try. Ohhhhmygooodness this product is amazing. It advertises to be a 12 hour primer, and it absolutely is. I've been using this as a BB cream/light foundation and it's perfect. It has the coverage of a light foundation is build able. I love how this product lasts all day- I put on my makeup around 7am for work at 8. I get home around 9pm, and the makeup is still on. It controls oils really well too. I find that I only have to blot once a day, if at all (I have an oily T-zone). I couldn't be happier with the product. Also, the $10 for 0.5fl oz is a great deal, considering

Deborah Lippmann "Blue Orchid" $18

This is the perfect spring pastel. The issue with so many pastel nail polishes, in my opinion anyway, is that they look super chalky. Or there's something going on with the consistency that makes it super streaky and hard to apply. Blue orchid has neither of these issues, and is the perfect balance between pastel and pigment. It's kind of similar to Essie's Bikini So Teeny, which I also love. The Essie polish has super fine shimmer/sparkles and is slightly darker and more periwinkle in comparison.

D&G 3L'Imperatrice $69

I purchased this perfume last year and have been obsessed with it since. I purchased this when I was looking for a floral/sweet perfume- something lighter than my beloved Flowerbomb. The light scent is perfect for spring and summer. Also a bonus that the $69 buys you 3 fl 0z instead of the usual 1 oz.

I was in Pittsburgh last week visiting colleges with my brother, who's a high school senior. I arrived a day early in order to spend some time catching up with one of my best friends who lives in the area.

My flight got in early in the morning, leaving me with some time to drive around exploring the city for a bit. I also found myself at the mall and picked up quite a few things. The drive around Pittsburgh was beautiful. The hills, tunnels, and multiple bridges made it unique, and quite enjoyable. I did get lost a couple of times, but that's usually welcomed whilst aimlessly exploring a new city. I found myself at Grandview Avenue, which turns out to be the most amazing view of the city (pictured below). I found myself envying those living in the apartments that have this view.
